Powerplay Alternative for Indian Contractors: What to Check Before You Switch

Many contractors in India start with one site app, use it for a few months, and then begin to wonder if something else would serve them better. This is normal. It happens with every construction management app, not just one. The common reasons are predictable. Pricing is not clear enough when the team grows. Some modules feel locked to higher plans, so you pay more just to open a feature you assumed was included. The people on site – the munshi, the mistri, the junior engineer – do not actually use the app daily, so the data stays incomplete. And many firms reach a point where they want accounts, material and labour in one place instead of juggling a site app, a WhatsApp group, and an Excel sheet for site kharcha.

If you are using Powerplay or evaluating it, and you are quietly shopping for an alternative, this article will not tell you that Powerplay is bad. It is a construction management app used by many Indian contractors. Instead, we will give you a checklist of what to verify in any alternative you consider, show you honestly where Trackovo fits and where it does not, and explain how to switch without losing a month of site work.

Seven things to check in any alternative

1. All modules in the plan you pay for

Some apps split features across plans so that material or accounts sit in a costly tier. Ask one direct question before paying: in the plan I am buying today, which modules are switched on? Get the answer in writing, over email. If attendance is in your plan but material is not, you will repeat the same shopping trip next year. Prefer apps where every module exists in every plan and the difference between plans is only users and project limits.

2. Published pricing

Look for prices on the website, in the open, before you talk to a salesperson. If you must request a quote, note down what you were told, for how many users and projects, and compare it later with what appears in the invoice. Published pricing keeps everyone honest and saves weeks of back-and-forth. It also lets you compare two apps in one evening without sitting through two demo calls.

3. Works for the least technical person on site

An app your engineer loves but your munshi ignores is only half an app. The test is simple: hand the phone to the person who marks hajiri or enters material challans and watch them work for ten minutes without help. Check the language of the interface, the size of the buttons, and whether common jobs like marking attendance or logging a delivery take two taps or ten. If the daily users cannot adopt it, the owner gets incomplete data and the subscription fee is wasted.

4. Attendance with photo and location

Labour attendance is where most site apps prove or fail. You want a photo capture and the site location recorded with each marking, so you know the entry is genuine and from the correct site. It should also feed directly into wage calculations and contractor settlement, so you are not re-entering the same hajiri into a separate salary sheet. We have written a full guide on attendance and salary handling if you want the details.

5. Material from request to stock

Material is a chain: the mistri requests, the engineer approves, the order goes to the vendor, the challan arrives, the stock updates. Many apps cover only part of this chain. If your alternative only logs deliveries but not approvals, the old WhatsApp approval habit will survive and the app becomes just a register. Read more about how we handle the full material cycle, and if you still run part of this on Excel, our construction Excel templates may help in the meantime.

6. Payments and settlement tied to work

Site money has two sides: what you pay out (vendors, labour contractors, machine hire, site kharcha) and what you bill the client. Check whether the app links payments to the actual records – the material order, the attendance sheet, the measurement book entry – or whether accounts sit in a separate section that nobody maintains. Settlement with labour contractors is a common pain point; see our notes on labour management and finance management.

7. Getting your data out

This is the check everyone forgets until it is too late. Ask: can I export my material records, attendance history, and payment entries if I leave? Is there a fee or a wait? Your data belongs to you. An app that makes leaving painful will also make staying expensive. Test the export before you commit, not after.

Where Trackovo fits

Trackovo is one app on Android and web that covers the seven checks above. It handles material requests, approvals, orders, receipts and stock; labour attendance with photo and site location; labour wages and contractor settlement; site-wise payments and expenses; vendors; tasks and daily progress; a measurement book; machines and tools; and client updates. Every module is in every plan. The plans differ only in core users and active projects:

PlanPrice per month (plus GST)Core usersActive projects
StarterRs 5,99835
GrowthRs 9,998612
ScaleRs 17,9981230

There is a 14-day free trial with no card needed, so you can test the seven checks yourself before paying anything. Full details are on the plans page. For daily reporting, see how the DPR feature works. If you want a structured comparison, we also maintain our side-by-side comparison of Trackovo and Powerplay, and similar pages comparing other options.

Where Trackovo may not fit

Stop juggling WhatsApp groups, Excel sheets, and paper registers

Trackovo runs every part of your construction site in one app — materials, attendance, finance, vendor payments. 14-day free trial. No card needed.

Honesty saves everyone time. Trackovo does not integrate with Tally. If your accountant needs entries pushed straight into Tally, Trackovo is not the right tool today, and you should look elsewhere or keep a manual bridge. Trackovo also does not include a construction CRM for leads and client follow-ups; it is built for running sites, not for winning them. And it is a younger product, so some features you find in older, larger apps may not exist yet or may still be maturing. If Tally sync or a CRM is non-negotiable for your firm, no trial will change that, and we would rather you knew now.

How to switch without losing a month

Switching site apps feels risky because work does not pause for software. Here is a low-risk method many contractors use.

  1. Pick one site and run in parallel for two weeks. Keep the old app or register as the official record. Enter the same data in the new app daily. After two weeks, compare attendance counts, material entries and payment records. If they match, you can trust the new system.
  2. Move masters first. Before daily use, load your vendor list, labour contractors and workers, material catalogue and project list. Entering a challan is quick only when the vendor and the item already exist in the system. Most of the pain of a new app is missing masters, not the app itself.
  3. Keep the old data exported. Before you stop paying for the old app, export everything – attendance, material, payments – and store a copy offline. You may never open it, but for any dispute about an old bill or a wage calculation, that export is your proof.
  4. Train the daily users, not just the owner. Sit with the munshi and the mistri for the first three days. Small incentives help. What matters is that hajiri and challan entries happen on day one in the new app.

If you want to see Trackovo working on your own site during the trial, start at the free trial page. If you prefer to see it on WhatsApp first, use the WhatsApp demo. Common questions

Is it wrong to switch apps mid-project?

No, if you do it carefully. Pick one site, run the new app in parallel for two weeks, and compare records at the end. Bills, attendance and material entries should match your old records. Once they do, you can switch fully without fear. What causes problems is an abrupt switch with no overlap and no export of old data.

Can I move my attendance and material history from Powerplay into Trackovo?

Start by exporting your history from your current app – check their website or support for the exact export options, and get written confirmation of what you will receive. Trackovo is set up so your masters (workers, vendors, materials) and new daily entries live in the app; for large old histories, the practical approach many contractors take is keeping the export as an archive reference while running everything fresh in the new app.

Do I have to buy a higher plan to get material or accounts modules in Trackovo?

No. Every module is in every plan. Starter, Growth and Scale differ only in the number of core users and active projects. You can confirm this on the plans page and test it yourself during the 14-day free trial, which does not need a card.

What if my munshi cannot use a smartphone app?

This is worth testing before any subscription. Give them the phone and watch them mark attendance or enter a challan without help. Attendance with photo and location is designed to be a quick job. If adoption still fails on your site, the honest answer is that no app will fix it and you may need to change who enters the data, or keep a paper register that someone else uploads each evening – for reference, see our labour attendance sheet format in Excel.
